The RAF only have 28 in service, the reds would need at least 11 that includes spares reducing the numbers to 17 and with Pilot training increasing in numbers unless there is a 'keep quiet' Hawk T2's being built then there is no way they would be T2's.

Interesting.

Wonder what they will be. It will be disappointing if it's not something jet engined.

Unless they have a load of spare T1's with little mileage it would have to be T2. They won't downgrade the Reds to prop driven.

Can you produce smoke (or enough) from a Turboprop? an integral part of their display and an important factor of the existence of the Reds is to
promote British Engineering using British Aircraft.

Could there be an order coming from a foreign air force for the Hawk that could facilitate opening the production line thus
 sorting the problem?

To build new T2s would cost around 16 million per Airframe so can't see that being remotely justified in the current times. While we would all like to see it staying 'british' I think it will go like most things in the Military at the moment and bids will come in from manufacturers and the best priced option will be picked whatever that may be.

Tucs are to retire soon Al and the T1s still have a good few years left with the current airframes so it won't be Tucs or Texans as we only ordered for Pilot training requirements no more.
